What Breaks Also Opens A Journey Through Burnout

In June 2025, I had the honor of speaking at the Global Hearth Summit 2025, hosted by The Wellbeing Project.

I was invited to share my personal story of burnout as a social sector leader, and how that unraveling marked the beginning of a deeper journey into healing, truth, and wholeness.

This experience allowed me to reflect on my journey through the lens of mental health and wellbeing, highlighting the hidden toll it took on me—something I did not anticipate when I began my career at 21, filled with hope, optimism, and confidence in my ability to create change.

In my talk, I offered a glimpse into my struggles, hoping to resonate with others who are on a similar path or considering this journey. Embracing vulnerability, uncertainty, and unexpected challenges is essential, as is learning to be kind to ourselves and to each other.

We must acknowledge the toll this work can take on our mental health and wellbeing, making space for pause, slowing down, and seeking support when necessary. Throughout our commitment to this work, we come to embrace the core idea that The Wellbeing Project advocates: 'Wellbeing inspires Welldoing.'

I extend my gratitude to Aaron Pereira, Karina Miotto, Manisha Vinod, and Suchetha Bhat (she/her) Bhat for their support in helping me bring my truth to life.
